I Can Help You With The Following Issues

Motivating you to change

Addictions are often misunderstood as there is an unhelpful focus upon behaviour e.g. compulsively watching online porn and less on the nature of the addiction itself and what purpose it is serving.

As there is invariably some level of enjoyment or comfort associated with an addiction or other well-rehearsed pattern of behaviour, there can be a high level of ambivalence associated with the prospect of changing these behaviours. I can help you understand the nature of this ambivalence and clarify your motivation to change.

  • Chemsex taking over your life
  • Watching too much porn online
  • Apps taking up too much time
  • Drugs or alcohol becoming a problem
  • Do you feel sexually compulsive or out of control
  • Concerned about the types of drugs you use
  • Are drugs or alcohol ruining your sex life

Your sexual health & wellbeing

Whilst the effective treatment for HIV has progressed enormously over the years since the 1980s, there is still considerable misunderstanding, ignorance and stigma attached to the risk of contracting HIV and what it is to live with HIV.
I can help inform you about the nature of HIV and other STIs. If you are HIV negative, I can help you understand your sexual behaviour and the risks you may be taking.

If you are HIV positive, I can help you come to terms with living with HIV; explore how you view yourself, HIV and how you feel others may view you.
I can help with the anger, guilt and shame that can often accompany a positive diagnosis and help you make choices when it comes to disclosure, lifestyle and issues around regularly taking antiretroviral medication.

• Worried about becoming HIV+ or contracting other STIs
• Trying to come to terms with what it means to be HIV+
• Unsure about whether or not to start taking HIV medication
• Concerned about your health and wellbeing
• Confused about whether to disclose your HIV status and to whom
• Taking too many sexual risks

Supporting & helping survivors

You may have suffered in silence for years, or have always found it difficult to talk about something that happened to you a long time ago. Talking to someone in a safe, non-judgemental space can start the healing process.

I offer a supportive environment, allowing you to talk at your own pace, about any aspect of sexual or emotional abuse you may have suffered.

• Hiding a secret, need to be believed
• Finding sexual relationships difficult
• Suffering from shame and/or guilt
• Feel isolated and alone
• Trying to understand your true sexuality

Helping you lead an authentic & fulfilled life

You may have feelings of shame linked to your sexuality that go back to your childhood years. There may be issues around bullying and feelings of isolation at school. Parental rejection or lack of understanding may be an issue for you. Together we can explore how these memories affected you then and may still affect you today. I will help you understand how to feel better about who you are and who you want to love.

You may be influenced by those around you and go to great lengths to fit in with expectations of others without paying attention to your own needs.
I offer a supportive and safe place to explore your sexuality and make choices about what type of life you want to lead, to be fulfilled and live a more authentic life.

• Confused about your sexuality
• Attracted to people of the same gender and feel unsure
• Feeling lonely because you feel different to other people
• Don’t know how, or whether to come out to friends and family

Helping you to cope with worry, stress & anxiety

Together we can help you to better understand what makes you anxious and why. We can help you come to terms with being an anxious person or somebody who is prone to anxiety.

I can help you better understand your thought patterns, recognise your particular triggers for anxiety and build coping mechanisms that work for you.

• Feel stressed
• Difficulty in sleeping
• Difficulty concentrating
• Feeling restless or on edge

Helping you understand & cope with depression

I can help you explore the thoughts and feelings associated with these experiences with a view to developing different thought patterns that can help you cope better.

Counselling is about understanding the nature of your depression and using this understanding to help you find ways of living with it that allow you to function better without losing sight of who you are.

• Tired and lethargic
• Lack of appetite
• Want to withdraw from the world
• Feel little pleasure from anything you do
• Feeling worthless or guilty

Helping your confidence and self-belief

I can help you to understand yourself better. Look at what you value about yourself, how you relate to others and in what circumstances you don’t feel good about yourself or your abilities.

To understand yourself we may look at past experiences and try to identify patterns in your thinking and behaviour. This exploration will also help you better understand some of the choices you have made. Knowing yourself better and creating clarity, can help you make different choices in the future.

• Lack confidence
• Feel others are better than you
• Not able to stand up for yourself
• Easily influenced by other people
• Feel invisible around other people

Counselling to assist relationship changes

Relationships in which you may be experiencing issues can include; sexual and intimate issues with a partner, family relations, friends or work colleagues.

If you are not currently in a relationship, counselling can also help you understand why you don’t feel able to meet the right person, why you keep making the same mistakes when it comes to partners and how you relate to other people.
